In addition to the Vivobook S 16 (S5606CA), Asus presented at CES 2025 the Vivobook S 16 (M5606KA) and the Vivobook S 14 (M5406WA) equipped with the new AMD Krackan Point APUs. Both of these laptops feature an aluminum chassis and an OLED display.
Features of the Asus Vivobook S 14 and S 16
The Asus Vivobook S 14 (M5406WA) and S 16 (M5606KA) are similar to the AMD Strix Point versions already available for sale. This means that Asus is essentially introducing new Krackan Point CPU options for both laptops.
Starting with the Asus Vivobook S 16 (M5606KA), the laptop now gets AMD Krackan Point APU options like the Ryzen AI 7 350. The Ryzen AI 7 350 equipped SKU brings a 16-inch Asus Lumina OLED display with a resolution of 2800×1800, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and 100% coverage DCI-P3 gamut. It is also equipped with an FHD webcam with Windows Hello support.
Additionally, the Ryzen AI 7 350 is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, 1TB of swappable storage, and a 75Wh battery.
Asus has improved the port situation on the Vivobook S 16 (M5606KA) by adding a USB 4 port. With this new addition, the Vivobook S 16 (M5606KA) now features:
- Two USB 4.0 ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery
- Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports
- One USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (also with DP and PD)
- A microSD slot
- An HDMI 2.1 output
- A 3.5mm combo jack
Finally, the Asus Vivobook S 16 is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6E/BT 5.3 and weighs around 1.5 kg.
Moving on to the smaller Asus Vivobook S 14 (M5406WA), the Vivobook S 14 has many similarities with its 16-inch sibling. The laptop features the same port configuration, battery size (75Wh), and charging power (90W). The main differences between the Vivobook S 14 and the S 16 are the more compact chassis, a smaller 14-inch OLED display, and a lighter weight of around 1.3 kg.
As for the specs, the 14-inch OLED display only refreshes at 60Hz and has a lower resolution of 1920 x 1200. That said, the display still covers 100% of the DCI gamut – P3 and should be sufficient for multimedia use.
As for pricing and availability, Asus announced a starting price of $1,099.99 for the Vivobook S 14 (M5406WA) and Vivobook S 16 (M5606KA). However, the Vivobook S 14 will launch a week later on February 25, 2025 at Best Buy, while the Vivobook S 16 will be available for purchase from February 18.
