A resident of Saint-Georges-des-Groseillers (Orne) appeared this Wednesday, December 11, 2024 before the Argentan criminal court for three offenses which he admitted.

Driving a vehicle without a license, in recurrence, a hit and run and a lack of control. He was finally sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of €235.

The car found in a ditch

On August 17, 2021, it was barely 7 a.m. when the gendarmes were called to go to the scene of a road accident in Jublains (Mayenne).

When they arrived, they noticed the presence of a Volkswagen Passat lying in the ditch opposite the direction of traffic. The driver is no longer there.

They will also notice that a fence bordering the field has been torn off several meters. The owner will assess his damage at €800.

He fled, since he repeats

At the bar of the court, this resident of Saint-Georges-des-Groseillersaged 22, explains that he was going through a complicated period. He had just lost his girlfriend and his apartment.

That morning he was going to work and theaccumulation of fatigue caused him to fall asleep at the wheel. If he left, it was because he knew he was a repeat offender.

His criminal record is piling up eleven mentions since 2019including numerous convictions for traffic offenses. “How do you explain all these convictions? », asks the president.

Convictions are increasing

The public prosecutor highlighted a certain seriousness of the facts and the flight of the driver who nevertheless has an already extensive criminal record and who must not forget that the convictions are increasing.

In repression, he requested a sentence of four months in prison accompanied by a probationary suspension for 18 months with work obligations and to pay the sums due to the public treasury in addition to a fine of €135.

The court ultimately sentenced him to a sentence of six months in prison accompanied by a probationary suspension for 18 months with provisional execution and obligations.
