22% drop in fishing landings at the port of M’diq
22% drop in fishing landings at the port of M’diq

The National Fisheries Office (ONP), reported a 22% drop in coastal and artisanal fishing landings at the port of M’diq, reaching 1,776 tonnes at the end of November 2024, down compared to the same period a year ago.

In its latest report on the statistics of coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco, the ONP specifies that the market value of these catches has, however, increased by 9% to more than 75.90 million dirhams (MDH), against approximately 69.62 MDH at the end of November 2023.

By species, the quantities of pelagic fish landed in this port also fell by 42% at the end of last November to 726 T, for an estimated value of around 11.89 MDH (-37%), compared to more than 18.93 MDH/ 1,244 tonnes at the end of November 2023.

Landings of white fish fell by 21% to 438 tonnes, for a value of more than 15.94 MDH, compared to 15.84 MDH/552 tonnes year-on-year.

Concerning the landings of cephalopods, they increased by 51% to 425 T for revenues of more than 27.79 MDH (+58%), while for crustaceans, landings fell by 2% to 183 T, generating income of around 20.25 MDH (+18%).

At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 1,233,568 tonnes at the end of November 2024, down 1% compared to the same period a year earlier. In value, these landings recorded an increase of 6% to nearly 10 billion dirhams.
