It was a press release from Santésuisse, the umbrella organization for health insurance, which ignited the situation last November. For its subsidiary Tarifsuisse, the services billed by the country’s psychologists and psychotherapists cost the health system too much: “It is clear that their work rates must be lowered urgently. The longer the excessive prices are maintained, the higher the financial risk of eventually having to reimburse the insurers will be.

A barely veiled threat towards an entire profession which is reminiscent of the earthquake of emergency taxes which affects medical emergency centers. The situation of psychologists and psychotherapists is not as dramatic – negotiations are underway and no decision from the Federal Court puts the knife to their throat – but the pressure on their salaries is maximum at the start of the year. In question, a provisional rate allowing them to bill their services at 154.80 francs per hour; agreement which expired on December 31, 2024.
