Tree fall on the pizzeria: BRGM analysis

The day after a tree fell on a restaurant in Rémire-Montjoly, the regional director of BRGM, the Geological and Mining Research Bureau, went to the site. At first glance, the specialist rules out a possible cause linked to the nature of the soil.

When the tree fell, it destroyed the kitchens of the Pizza Montjoly restaurant. It was Friday, January 3 before the noon service. Several employees were slightly injured and have now been released from hospital. The next day, Floriane Deneuville-Mayer, regional director of BRGM, the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research, visited the site the following day.

After a brief examination of the site, she formulated a first hypothesis. For her, geological instability has nothing to do with the fall of the tree. It would rather be an “imbalance linked to its growth, with a shift in its center of gravity. »

The fall of this cheesemaker therefore does not seem to be linked to soil dynamics. But in other cases, observing trees can help prevent landslides during the rainy season.

Soil dynamics are constrained by weather effects, particularly high rainfall, indicates Floriane Deneuville-Mayer. The interest in observing trees can be to more or less anticipate a landslide

The Pizza Montjoly restaurant is part of the “Petit Bateau” group. According to Yann Briois, its general manager, the insurance expert came by this morning… Pending reconstruction, the 18 employees of Pizza Montjoly will be offered either a position in another restaurant in the group, or technical unemployment.
