Cable C1: arrival of the first cable car in Île-de- in 2025, where is the project?

The first cable car in Île-de- will soon see the light of day in Val-de-. Named Cable C1, this cable car will unveil five stations located between the towns of Créteil and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. While commissioning is planned for the end of 2025, work continues. So, where is the progress of the project? We tell you more.

The more the weeks pass, the more the commissioning of the first urban cable car d'Île-de-France is getting closer! This unusual mode of transport, named Cable 1 (C1), is expected in the Val-de-Marne at the end of 2025. Although the prototype was unveiled in June 2023 during an event organized in the presence of Valérie Pécresse, work is continuing actively.

The first series of cabins has been ready since August 2024.”Cabins ready for flight are cleaned, wrapped in a protective sock and stored until departure” indicates Île-de-France Mobilités on its website. Last September, the first occasional tests were carried out with the cabins on the first section of the C1. Between the Pointe du lac and Limeil-Brévannes stations, several of them circulated, at low speed, in the sky of Val-de-Marne.

The greening of roofs of the 5 stations of Cable C1or around 2,000m² in total, also began, with the installation of the first green roof at the Limeil-Brévannes station, at the end of November.

What about the famous pylonsessential for the commissioning of the first cable car in Île-de-France? The very first, with a height of 43 meters, was installed at the Limeil-Brévannes station in October 2023. Since then, work has progressed well, since one of the last large pylons (with a height of 51 meters) was lifted on September 26 at Villeneuve-Saint-Georges station. According to Le Parisien, there are still three pylons to be raised.

Another important advance before the commissioning of the Cable C1 ? The end of cable unwinding between Villa Nova and La Végétale stations. Since mid-December, this famous cable has been positioned on the second sector.

We do not forget the continuation of the work around the gateway to connect the Pointe du lac station, on metro line 8, to the François Mitterrand mall.

According to our colleagues from Le Parisien, the schedule will indeed be respected and the inauguration of the first cable car in Île-de-France should therefore be done “very end of the year“2025. Just before, there will be the famous stage of the dry run and the final tests, allowing “ensure the performance, security of infrastructures, the system as well as the comfort of travelers“, we can read on the Cable C1 website. According to the daily, the “tests of the cabins attached to the cable will be carried out in the fall of 2025“.

Concretely, five stations will therefore welcome travelers from the Ile-de-France region, between the cities of and of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. More precisely, it will be possible to connect the metro line 8 station, Pointe-du-Lac located in Créteil, in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges (i.e. a distance of 4.5 km) in just 18 minutesall in the air. These cabins with 10 seats and 100% accessible will fly over no less than four Ile-de-France municipalities, namely Creteil, Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton et Villeneuve-Saint-Georgesall located in the Val-de-Marne. To ensure a rapid mode of transport, Île-de-France Mobilités announces less than 30 seconds between two cabin passages.
