During a search in Saint-Ambroix, the Gard gendarmes and the French Biodiversity Office rescued an American goldfinch, a protected species, illegally detained. The bird, weakened, was entrusted to an ornithological center to find freedom.
This is an unexpected discovery made by the Saint-Ambroix gendarmes in collaboration with the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) during a recent search linked to a judicial investigation. In a cramped cage, they found an American goldfinch, a protected species in France, held illegally.
The bird, captured in precarious conditions, was visibly weakened. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the authorities, the goldfinch was entrusted to a specialized ornithological center. The latter will ensure its rehabilitation before its release into its natural habitat, where it can resume its role in the ecosystem.
As for the individual involved in this illegal detention, he will soon have to answer for his actions before the Alès judicial court.
