A car crashes into the heart of the Christmas market in Magdeburg (Germany) on December 20, killing five people and injuring dozens. Another which targets the crowd during New Year's celebrations in New Orleans (Louisiana), causing 15 deaths and more than 30 injuries. For the national anti-terrorism prosecution (Pnat) as for the Ministry of the Interior, the threat is considered “very high”. In a note sent in mid-December to all security services, Bruno Retailleau warned against “the increase in tensions at the international level” and demanded a “extreme vigilance” in places of worship or festive gatherings.
