A meeting that “comes late”. This is what deplores Laurence Marandola, spokesperson for the Confédération paysanne on Saturday January 4 on franceinfo, about the meeting proposed by Prime Minister François Bayrou to the sector's union organizations on January 13. Same observation on the side of Rural Coordination, which maintains its call to demonstrate “in Paris” et “everywhere in France” from Sunday January 5, judging the date of this meeting too far away.
“We are waiting to see what commitments could be made”warns Laurence Marandola, for whom commitments “announced in recent days by the Minister of Agriculture do not match the difficulties encountered” by farmers. “We expect this government to make decisions that can respond to the difficulties of the majority of farmers. That is not what is on the table today”she believes.
Firstly, it demands “concrete measures for farmers’ income” with “remunerative prices above production costs”. “Otherwise, we work at a loss and we die”warns Laurence Marandola. The Peasant Confederation then demands “signals, clear accompaniment” et “of protection” particularly in the face of climatic hazards.
Finally, she asks for an end “historical immobility” between the government and the majority union, the FNSEA. “This has to change”she insists. “It is this third need that we will express to François Bayrou next week, to really respect union pluralism, democracy, so that every farmer feels represented and not just the industrial model”adds the spokesperson for the Peasant Confederation.
