In France, the flu epidemic has been on the rise for a week. Some hospitals have opened special units to accommodate patients most affected by this virus.
Difficult to find an appointment with a general practitioner, but a patient was lucky this Friday morning. For several days, she has been feeling feverish. No doubt for the doctor: at the moment, he is seeing a lot of cases of flu. A nasal test to check, the result will be positive. The epidemic this year is particularly virulent. “It's been a long time since we've felt such a major epidemic.”, informs Doctor Jean-Luc Leymarie.
Since Christmas, the flu has spared no region and no age group. The most affected are children under 15 years old. To deal with this epidemic, some hospitals have opened specific units. This is the case in Lisieux in Normandy, with eight additional beds. The patients received are mostly over 60 years old and suffer from significant breathing difficulties. This temporary unit ensures that emergency services are not overcrowded.
