The administration of the Tangier 2 local prison assured that the health situation within the penitentiary establishment remained “normal” and did not give rise to concern. Reacting to what was broadcast by certain electronic sites concerning “the spread of measles among prisoners”, the General Delegation of Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) indicated that as soon as the first symptoms of the disease appear, illness in four prisoners, including two new arrivals, a series of preventive measures were taken immediately.
Suspected cases were quarantined and subjected to the necessary analyses, the DGAPR said in a press release. According to the same source, the appropriate therapeutic protocol was followed for the cases tested positive among detainees and civil servants, in cooperation with local health authorities.
A voluntary vaccination operation against measles was also carried out for the benefit of prisoners and staff of the penitentiary establishment, under the supervision of a medical team reporting to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
