Short story of a very great race
The Transjurassiennemost often nicknamed Transju', was born in 1979 under the name Progressin reference to the newspaper Progress where Jacky Mandrillon, one of the founders of the project, worked. With Georges Berthet, president of the Jura regional ski committee, as well as the clubs and communities covered, they are passionately setting up this cross-country ski race project.
From the start, the Transju' aimed to allow amateur skiers but also international athletes to take part in the same event and to bring them together for a race to celebrate the Jura and cross-country skiing. So, today, many participants came from all continents to take part in the queen of long distances in France.
La Transju' has also acquired a truly international reputation. Previously included in the World Cup program, the race saw world cross-country skiing legend Bjørn Dæhlie (12 Olympic medals, 17 world championship medals) pass by, the day after the Alberville Olympics in 1992.
After the cancellation of the 2024 edition, the race returns to the Jura massif on February 8 and 9. And what's more, on its historic route between Lamoura (Jura) and Mouthe (Doubs). The Transju' will therefore pass through Prémanon, Les Rousses, Bois-d'Amont, Bellefontaine, Chapelle-des-Bois, Le Pré Poncet, to the village of Little Siberia.
All this, obviously “If the snow and weather conditions allow it” specifies Pierre-Albert Vandel, president of Trans’Organisation. Otherwise, a 50 km route between Lamoura and Les Rousses, already successfully tested in 2023, will be chosen by the organizers.
In addition to the classic route, several distances are accessible. Whether in Skating or Classic style. 25 or 50 kilometers, there are 7 races that await the most seasoned cross-country skiers. But there are other races in other disciplines, on other dates.
Because children also have the right to take part in this great cross-country skiing festival, the Transju' Jeunes will only welcome not less than 2500 founders and casterss between 7 and 19 years old each year. See you on Wednesday January 22, 2025 to support young athletes.
And faced with climate challenges, the Transju' brand has been able to adapt and now offers races at other times of the year. Thus, in spring we find the Transju Trail, and at the end of summer the Transju Cyclo. Always in the heart of the Jura mountains, to enable long-term and sustainable development of the region.
