The project to build a community activity zone Big Sales (Seine-Maritime) had been at a standstill for some time.

The reason? A archaeological diagnosis had to be carried out by the DRAC on the ground in order to check whether “ the project is likely to affect elements of the archaeological heritage“. First postponed, the diagnosis is now complete, giving the green light for the construction of the future activity zone.

No additional excavations

The community received the long-awaited archeology diagnostic report at the beginning of December.

“The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) informed us that the land concerned will not give rise to any subsequent prescription », says Clothilde Morisset, head of the planning and economic development center of Bray-Eawy.

The land is freed from any constraints under preventive archaeology.

And to add: “The development project is therefore continuing with the upcoming launch of the consultation for the works contract. We hope to start work in spring 2025.”

Traces of Neolithic and ancient occupation

The DRAC report still does mention of discoveries during the preventive excavation operation notably ” traces of Neolithic and ancient occupationwhose presence had already been identified during previous pedestrian surveys in the 1990s.

According to the DRAC, “the period of the High Empire seems more represented” thanks to the elements found, despite everything “the information is too scattered to concretely determine what was the precise occupation of the places”.

In detail, “several cut flints were found divided into four distinct groups of varying density from the Neolithic period. These groups are made up of flint flakes and cores, shaped for the extraction of flakes, called cores.”

Concerning the ancient period, “the elements are diffuse, with some traces of mainly ceramic furniture, coming from ditches or stripping”.

Finally, the report indicates a “weak presence dating from the Middle Ages, as well as the existence of a brick kiln from the contemporary or late modern period”.

21 plots

As a reminder,21 plots will be created in this new community activity zonewhich will be located at the Grandes-Ventes exit towards , intended forwelcome new artisans and small businesses.

In May 2024, the municipality announced that half of the plots were already reserved. A roundabout, 50% financed by the Department, will be built on the D915 in order to access this new 6 hectare space, but also to open up the old Orival ZAC.
