Senegal and Chad attacked comments made this Monday by Emmanuel Macron who focused in particular on relations between and Africa.

The Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs deplored this Monday, January 6, the “contemptuous attitude” of President Macron who considered that African leaders had “forgotten to say thank you” to France for its intervention in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel. The President of the Republic spoke at the Conference of Ambassadors at the Élysée Palace.

“The government of the Republic of Chad expresses its deep concern following the remarks made recently by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, which reflect a contemptuous attitude towards Africa and Africans” declared Abderaman Koulamallah in a press release read on state television.

“No discussions or negotiations took place”

For his part, on his social networks, the Prime Minister of Senegal Ousmane Sonko pointed out another sentence from Emmanuel Macron on the upcoming withdrawal of French soldiers from his country. Ousmane Sonko denounced Emmanuel Macron’s “totally erroneous” remarks.

“No discussions or negotiations have taken place to date and the decision taken by Senegal stems from its sole will, as a free, independent and sovereign country,” declared the Senegalese leader.

According to him, France “has often contributed to destabilizing certain African countries such as Libya with disastrous consequences noted on the stability and security of the Sahel.”

Emmanuel Macron spoke of the gradual withdrawal of French soldiers from Africa, believing that this is a consequence of the putsches that occurred in several African countries.
