From March 5 to June 8, 2025, the Museum of Decorative Arts celebrates Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, a major figure in Art Deco, through an exceptional exhibition in the cabinet of drawings, wallpapers and photographs.
A tribute to a visionary of furniture and interior decor
A true triumphant of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925, Ruhlmann is recognized for his refinement and attention to detail. This retrospective highlights his central role in the design of the famous French Embassy Pavilion, a masterpiece of aesthetic harmony bringing together the work of fifty artists. This building, nicknamed the Ruhlmann Pavilion, remains a reference in the history of architecture and design.
An exploration of his personal archives
The exhibition reveals treasures from Ruhlmann's archives, including drawings, wallpapers and photographs, which testify to his taste for elegance and coherence in interior designs. Heir to a thriving business, he used this prosperity to bring his artistic aspirations to life, attaching particular importance to ornamentation.
The Museum of Decorative Arts also presents, for the first time, wallpapers designed by Ruhlmann for the Defossé & Karth manufactures and the French Wallpaper Society. These rare works allow us to better understand the vision of this artist who left a lasting mark on Art Deco.
An appointment not to be missed
Accessible on the 5th floor of the Museum of Decorative Arts, this exhibition is an unmissable event for lovers of art history and design. A unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the refined and timeless universe of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann.
