Snowboard enthusiasts can go this Friday to Ovifat, Mont Spinette and the Losheimergraben area in the Eastern Cantons. These three destinations indeed offer a sufficient layer of snow, according to the snow report published by the Eastern Townships tourism agency.
At the Baraque de Fraiture (Vielsalm, province of Luxembourg), it is possible to go downhill skiing and tobogganing. Of the fifteen areas in the Eastern Cantons, only three will be accessible this Friday. Children will be able to go sledding or tobogganing on the Ovifat slope, which has a layer of 15 centimeters of snow this morning. Two alpine ski slopes in this resort (green and blue) are also open.
At Mont Spinette, an 11-kilometer, unmarked cross-country ski trail offers 10 centimeters of snow.
In Losheimergraben, a stone’s throw from the German border, 15 centimeters of snow cover the ground and the three cross-country ski trails, ranging from 4 to 12 kilometers, are open.
This bulletin is regularly updated online. Local tourist authorities are hopeful of maintaining at least the same offer throughout the weekend, the last of the school holidays. “It snowed again earlier near Malmedy and the cold weather should continue”estimates Benoît Bodart, employee at the Maison du Tourisme des Hautes Fagnes – Eastern Cantons.
“The tracks currently open should remain open this weekend, certainly on Saturday,” he adds, allowing hundreds of tourists to enjoy a few moments of sliding.
In the province of Luxembourg, at Baraque de Fraiture, where 10 centimeters of snow were recorded on Friday morning, the toboggan and alpine ski slopes were accessible. A toboggan run is also available at Val de Wanne (Trois-Ponts). “It froze hard last night and if the weather remains dry this Friday, the conditions should remain the same on Saturday at least,” predicts the Maison du Tourisme Haute Ardenne.
