Tennis – ATP Hong Kong: Alexandre Müller overthrows Arthur Fils and reaches the final four

Frenchman Alexandre Müller, 67th in the world, eliminated his compatriot Arthur Fils, 20th, this Friday in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Hong Kong, despite losing the first set (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) . After having fought for more than 3h30 to get rid of the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (54th) in the previous round, Müller found the resources to dominate Fils and overthrow him in 1h51 of play.

The younger of the two Frenchmen (20 years old for Fils, 27 years old for Müller) nevertheless took the upper hand in the first round. But Müller, more consistent, then took the lead, taking advantage of his opponent's wanderings (9 double faults, 45% first serves). Son missed a lot of opportunities to take Müller's serve (2 break points converted out of 13), unlike Müller (5/8). The latter will play against the Spaniard Jaume Munar, defeater of the Italian seeded number 2 in the tournament, Lorenzo Musetti (2-6, 7-6, 7-5) for a place in the final.

The Ile-de- resident will therefore try on Saturday to qualify for the second final of his career on the main circuit after the one played, and lost, in Marrakech in the spring of 2023 against Roberto Carballes Baena. But whatever happens, he will consolidate his best ATP ranking at the end of this first week of the 2025 calendar. At worst, he will indeed flirt next Monday with the Top 60, for the first time. He will join it if he reaches the final.
