“I certainly spoke with the thieves…”
Since Thursday January 2, 2025, Ludovic Leclercq has not lost his temper. While he was exhibiting at the Prieuré Saint-Nicolas in Sables-d'Olonne, the artist had his two centerpieces.
Artist for 5 years
Of Norman origin, Ludovic settled in Vendée in 2002. Living in La Genétouze, he discovered for five years now the passion for clay with which he creates sculptures.
A novice in the industry, he is only invited to “few exhibitions” and seeks to make himself known in the industry.
Ludovic therefore agreed to exhibit for the first time in Sables-d'Olonne, at the Saint-Nicolas Priory.
“The welcome was friendly, everything was very good, I chatted with people and explained to them my journey, my process, my works,” assures Ludovic Leclercq, satisfied with his first experience in the City.
A flight at €3,400
On Thursday January 2, the alarm at Saint-Nicolas Priory went off. A town hall agent cuts it and Ludovic Leclercq goes there.
His two centerpieces of the exhibition, Anubis and Horus, were stolen. With an estimated value of 1 700 € piècethe busts representing Egyptian deities have been stolen and only their bases remain.
Shocked and disturbed by the event, Ludovic immediately collected all his works and ended the exhibition before filing a complaint.
Anger and spite
“I’m angry, I’m disappointed,” breathes Ludovic Leclercq.
“We take time off from our vacations, we travel, we talk with people, these works are a part of us, it’s crazy,” laments the artist, “when we sell a piece, it’s is like an adoption, we know that our baby is in good hands.”
“I have no idea where the busts could be: at someone's house, in the port or broken and thrown away somewhere…”
The Vendée artist counts on the camera installed on the forecourt to highlight the facts. According to the artist's information, the City of Sables-d'Olonne should also file a complaint.
“It puts me off a little for future exhibitions unfortunately,” confides Ludovic Leclercq who is still feeling the blow the day after the theft.
He “went to all these exhibitions with pleasure”, in the hope of making himself known with a dream in mind: exhibit his busts at Hellfest.
