On the night of December 30 to 31, 2024, several municipalities in the Northern Territory, including Grosmagny, Rougegoutte, Vescemont, were the target of copper theft. According to Maurice Léguillon, mayor of Grosmagny, all the lampposts from the church to the RD 12 roundabout were vandalized.

“The damage is significant”

“We have between 300 and 400 meters of 16 mm diameter cable which have been stolen,” deplores Maurice Léguillon. In addition, many of the electrical systems have been damaged. The damage is significant for the municipality. At the very least, several thousand euros. » While waiting for repairs, the center of the village remains plunged into darkness after nightfall.

Streets without lighting

In Rougegoutte, Mayor Guy Miclo noted that the copper wires of 13 red public lighting poles had been cut and torn out. “The entire sector at the RD12/RD24 intersection route de Chaux, avenue de Lattre-de-Tassigny and rue des Écoles will remain temporarily without light at night,” he indicates.

In Vescemont, avenue Jean-Moulin and impasse de l'Étang are left without public lighting. Four candelabras were damaged in order to recover the electrical wires. “This situation is all the more regrettable as it directly impacts the daily lives of local residents and road users,” reacts Christian Canal, mayor of Vescemont.

Covered by insurance?

The municipalities of the three villages filed a complaint with the gendarmerie, they contacted companies to obtain rapid repairs. “But we don't know if it is possible to pull the cables into the existing buried conduits,” says the mayor of Grosmagny.

The municipalities contacted their insurance in the hope of obtaining compensation. “We do not yet know if the insurance will cover this type of loss,” declares Maurice Léguillon.

“Stay vigilant”

“In addition, for several years, the town has had to deal with acts of vandalism targeting the public lighting installation located at the top of the Route du Rosemont,” continues the mayor of Vescemont, Christian Canal. These malicious acts are costly to the community and penalize everyone. Faced with these actions, the municipality calls on everyone to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious behavior to the competent authorities and appeals to everyone's good citizenship to fight against the intentional and malicious destruction or deterioration of public property. »
