INTERVIEW – A decade after the attack which caused the death of twelve people, many political leaders do not seem to have taken seriously the scale and nature of the Islamist threat, worries the former security director of “Charlie Hebdo ”, which publishes The Irresponsible published by Plon.

Éric Delbecque is the former security director of “ Charlie Hebdo » after the 2015 attack and specialist in internal security. He has just published The Irresponsible. Ten years after Charlie Hebdo published by Plon.


LE FIGARO. – You were director of security at Charlie Hebdo and as such you shared the daily life of the members of the editorial staff. What is it? Ten years later, is the threat still as intense and the security measures as draconian?

Eric DELBECQUE. – Of course, it remains important. It has never really declined in ten years. It experiences peaks, but its average level remains strong. We must therefore maintain demanding measures. Yesterday as today, in concrete terms, the daily life of the editorial staff is built on vigilance. It is first exercised by SDLP police officers who protect the most threatened personalities, like Riss. Even more generally, the safety of Charliethey are security guards…
