After Florilèges, the flower festival, here is Miel Vert, another major event in Tampons which promotes a large part of the agricultural products of Reunion Island.
From this Friday January 3 to Sunday January 12, 2025, Plaine-des-Cafres will host its share of activities for young and old, in the middle of school holidays. 250 exhibitors are expected to introduce visitors to the different péi honeys, of course, but also other products such as turmeric, local fruit jams, chili peppers, essential oils, or even handicrafts.
The report from Réunion La 1ère:
Miel Vert 2025 is getting ready: this Thursday, the exhibitors were fine-tuning their installations. Reporting.
This is the case of Sylvie Tam, this Tamponnaise who this Thursday again organized her stand of various textiles for her first Miel Vert. “We have aprons with little bees, washable kitchen towels and food charlottes, make-up remover wipes… I also offer embroidery to personalize the aprons for example“, she lists.
Pascal Huet, from Saint-Joseph, focuses above all on his syrups: turmeric, cinnamon or geranium, sage… Each one praised for its different virtues.
“Turmeric has many virtues, it is more for the flu, to remove colds on the stomach, for the bronchi and coughs. Cinnamon is also for the flu, and possibly mixed rum. Geranium too It's for colds or the beginnings of asthma. Benzoin is for coughs, hoarse voices, everything that causes sore throats, sage for anxiety…”
Pascal Huet, “Syrup of the Day”
Others will prefer the taste qualities of péi fruit syrups, to enhance crepes and yogurts.
In addition to delicacies, Miel Vert aims to be rich in discoveries every year, especially for children who are always delighted to meet farm animals. Especially if they are called “Pikachu“, like this male ram of Charollais breed, accompanied by his comrade”Yes yes”. Both are already comfortably seated in their box.
Grégoire Folio, 17 years old and a student at the Saint-Joseph agricultural high school, is on his second voluntary participation in Miel Vert. “By passion, to be in contact with animals and the public. It gives you experience and allows you to meet people”he justifies.
This Thursday, he was already on site to help welcome the animals who will live there for the next ten days.
“There I am feeding the rams, Pikachu and Oui-Oui. I feed them by giving them a little hay. At high school we don't have this category of animal, so it allows me to discover and to train myself a little too”
Grégoire Folio, volunteer from the Saint-Joseph agricultural high school
Between 150 and 200 animals – cows, sheep, pigs, and even parrots, camels and llamas – are expected at the event. The pork industry will be in the spotlight this year.
Gastronomy will once again have a special place during the event. The Culinary Academy of the Indian Ocean and Overseas has invited, among others, Jonathan Mougel, Best Confectionery Worker in France in 2019, and Alain Le Cossec, Director of Culinary Arts at the Paul Bocuse Institute. The emphasis will be placed in particular on the regional cuisine of Brittany, Lorraine and Savoie, with specially invited chefs.
The program of culinary workshops, courses and cooking competitions:
The Miel Vert evenings will begin this Friday, January 3 with the election of Miss Plaine-des-Cafres.
The musical stage, which in itself attracts a lot of people, will host thematic evenings for this 41st edition.
