President of the MNOP Festival, Stéphane Colin regularly goes to New Orleans, where he has musician friends. After the attack which occurred on the night of December 31, he testified.

“I was there again last April and October. Obviously, when I found out, I was very worried. » When Stéphane Colin, at the helm of the MNOP festival (Musiques de La Nouvelle-Orléans en Périgord), learned of the car attack which left at least fifteen dead, on the night of December 31 to January 1, in La New Orleans, he immediately called his artist friends.

“Some artists have been coming to the festival regularly since its beginnings and some will be there next year. They are more than friends, they are family,” testifies the president, who notably contacted the jazz sousaphone player Kirk Joseph, the trombonist Craig Klein, the artist Big Chief Juan Pardo, and even the painter Périgourdine Isabelle Jacopin. “They are all safe and sound but very shocked,” reveals Stéphane Colin who says that the area – Bourbon Street – is “very popular with tourists”. “I know the neighborhood well, it’s one of the busiest in New Orleans, even if it’s not exactly the place to listen to jazz. »

If the question of paying a tribute for the next edition of the MNOP Festival has not yet been resolved, “I will talk about it with the musicians I have contacted and who will be there next year,” assures Stéphane Colin.
