Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe appears to be seriously injured at the end of a fight with Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway on Sunday night.

The latter hit goalkeeper Dennis Hildeby during the final moments of the first period of the match played in the Queen City. The Leafs guard lunged at him and both skaters dropped their gloves.

McCabe’s head then hit the icy surface heavily, as both men fell backwards. The Maple Leafs representative then seemed completely lost. He was wobbling and was unable to get up. The veteran finally came to his senses after several minutes.

The Toronto organization then indicated that its player’s game was over due to an upper body injury.

This season, McCabe is the second most used defenseman on average per game for the Maple Leafs. The 31-year-old American collected one goal and 10 assists for 11 points in 35 games.

It was the Maple Leafs who won 3-2 in overtime. Matthew Knies, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Morgan Rielly scored for Toronto. Tyson Foerster and Scott Laughton provided the Flyers’ replies.
