The Ministries responsible for Energy in Mauritania and Senegal, Petrosen and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company (Smh) proudly announce the official opening of the first well of the Gta project.

According to a joint press release, the achievement of this important milestone marks a major step in the completion of the Gta project and consolidates the existing exemplary partnership between Mauritania and Senegal, now destined to play a key role in the regional energy industry. .
The Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (Gta) project, recalls the same source, is developed by the association composed of Smh, Petrosen, bp and Kosmos Energy.
The Gta project, it is explained, located on the maritime border between Mauritania and Senegal, represents one of the largest deep-water gas discoveries in the region. Driven by exemplary cooperation between the two nations, this project demonstrates their commitment to sustainably exploit natural resources, for the benefit of the populations and economies of both countries.
According to the press release, the opening of the first well of the project marks the culmination of technical operations and paves the way for the start of gas marketing planned very soon.
“The opening of gas wells is a historic step for Senegal. It reflects our common vision with Mauritania to make the Gta project a successful model of energy collaboration,” declared Birame Souleye Diop, Minister of Energy, Oil and Mines of Senegal.

“This exemplary partnership with Senegal demonstrates the capacity of our two countries to achieve ambitious and sustainable objectives together. The energy future of our region looks promising,” declared Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Oil of Mauritania.
