Ashil is the first baby in Bas-Rhin born in 2025, according to our colleagues from DNA.
Indeed, the boy was born at 12:10 a.m. Rhena clinicin Strasbourg.
A first name never given before, according to INSEE
Ashil, with this spelling, has never been given in France, if we refer to the INSEE first name file, which goes back to 1900.
The first name Achillehe was assigned 690 times in 2023 for the garçons et zero times for the girls that same year (it may have been in some previous years).
In the INSEE first name file, we also find the version spelled with an “s”, Achillesas well as Achilles et Achi.
“We wanted a name that was out of the ordinary”
Questioned by our colleagues, the parents, of Ukrainian origin for the mother and Turkish for the father, explained: “We wanted a unusual French name and who is written in five letterslike our two first names.”
“Ashil stood out because he reference to our two different cultures. It's a first name that pronounced everywhere», they add.
