The gesture is beautiful but backfired on its author. A couple of residents of Évaux-les-Bains, in the Creuse, offered to house them after seeing on television that they had been sleeping in their car for three years, at Aix-en-Provence. Christina and her husband contacted them and suggested that they come and settle in Néris-les-Bains, about thirty kilometers from Évaux, in Allier. The homeless accept and agree with the owners a rent of 500 euros including charges. “(Christina) offered to accommodate us, immediately, without knowing us», tell Mireille, 76 years old, retired, and Lionel, 59 years old, who has a disability pension, in the program “Only the truth that counts” on December 10 (see below).
The tenant couple quickly experienced financial difficulties and could no longer pay their rent. “They gradually reduced what they paid us and now only pay us for electricity.», says Christina, quoted by France Bleu Creuse. Very bad news because the owner couple has a loan on their back for a house that they bought in 2022. And these rents are often used to repay it. Christina, who doesn'tdon't want» to tenants and “don't regret (son) gesture», admits having rushed a little. “The error may be mine. I thought I was doing well but I didn't think it would put me in difficulty», she worries.
Call for help
To remedy this, Christina, a stay-at-home mother, set out to find lasting work, with the support of the community of municipalities. In vain for the moment. Faced with this critical situation, the couple of owners had to decide to put up for sale the house that they rent to the homeless. But far from putting pressure on the tenants, quite the contrary, Christina launched an appeal to help them. With her husband, she also supports them in their requests for HLM in the Creuse but also near Aix-en-Provence where Mireille and Lionel plan to return. “I wish they were warm and I could sell and breathe, get by“, fingers crossed Christina who hopes to get a quick response from social networks.
