Tumultuous New Year in the Somme: more than a hundred interventions

The year 2025 started on an intense note in the Somme. On the night of December 31 to January 1, firefighters, gendarmes and police officers were mobilized on multiple occasions to respond to incidents linked to the New Year festivities. A look back at an evening marked by excitement and increased vigilance by the forces of order.

A busy night for the firefighters

In the Somme, firefighters were called to intervene 106 times throughout the evening. These missions covered various incidents, including road accidentsdepartures from intentional or accidental firesas well as interventions to help individuals in distress. Despite the scale of the demands, no incident of major seriousness was recorded, which testifies to the mastery of the teams mobilized.

Gendarmerie and reinforced controls

While firefighters faced a busy evening, the gendarmerie services carried out 35 road checks with the aim of preventing accidents often linked to excessive consumption of alcohol or other substances. The gendarmes also had to intervene in 47 specific situationswhich is double what is observed during a typical night. These interventions notably made it possible to manage minor disturbances to public order.

Targeted arrests for damage

As for the police forces deployed in large cities such as Amiens et Abbevillethey proceeded to the arrest of three individuals involved in acts of degradation. These incidents, although limited in number, demonstrate the tensions that can punctuate this festive night. Nationally, the Ministry of the Interior revealed worrying figures: 984 vehicles burned et 420 arrestsdont 310 ended in police custody.

Reinforced vigilance for peaceful festive nights

Despite an increase in incidents on a national scale compared to 2023, the departmental results for the Somme remain measured thanks to the responsiveness of firefighters and the coordination of law enforcement.
