SOCIETY / The Haut-Alpine commune has changed its name and is now called Rousset-Serre-Ponçon

-Hautes-Alpes-

Never call him Rousset again! Since January 1, the Haut-Alpine commune has been named Rousset-Serre-Ponçon. After 14 years of procedure, the municipality was able to change its name.

According to the mayor, Catherine Saumont, it was the confusion with Rousset in the Bouches du Rhône that pushed the Haut-Alpine commune to request this change. Confusions which led to problems with mail, invoicing, or even deliveries…

A request initially rejected

After a consultation with residents, a first request was made in 2010. A request which was rejected in . The reason “ Serre-Ponçon was not linked to Rousset » according to them, underlines the city councilor. A procedure was thus relaunched about a year and a half ago, explains Catherine Saumont, “ I really insisted on the fact that the Serre-Ponçon site is in Rousset. The dam rests on the Hautes-Alpes side on the Serre-Ponçon which is in the commune ».

“I do not see any other municipality more legitimate than Rousset to attach the name of Serre-Ponçon to its name”, C. Saumont.

A decree during the summer for entry into force on January 1, 2025

« Serre-Ponçon will allow you to really locate the town. We must not forget the tourist aspect and we are a highly tourist town. (…) Customers will be able to locate much better » indicates the mayor.
