New conviction for the vice-president of the commune of Tetouan

According to the Thursday January 2, 2025 edition ofAl Ahdath Al Maghribiathe court of first instance of Tetouan has once again condemned the fourth vice-president of the Tetouan Municipal Council, suspended from his functions for fourteen months. This suspension follows legal decisions handed down against him for scam, fraud, influence peddling and issuing bad checks. The same court had already sentenced him, on December 25, 2024, to one month in prison with a fine of 5,500 dirhams.

The accused allegedly abused his power when he held a position in the office of the Minister of Justice, then as vice-president of the commune of Tetouan. He allegedly collected sums of money by promising fraudulent recruitments within the Ministry of Justice, in addition to issuing bad checks. Despite attempts to cover up these cases, several victims have filed complaints. Others, holding checks or acknowledgments of debt signed by the accused, are still waiting to get their money back.

Although he has been convicted three times, the elected official continues to try to reinstate his position on the Municipal Council. This situation arouses the astonishment of observers, who point out the silence of the authorities in the face of the absence of administrative measures against him, while other municipal councilors are incarcerated for similar acts.

Councilors from the municipality of Tetouan have publicly requested, via writings or messages on social networks, the application of the law. They consider the elected official to be de facto revoked. However, the latter persists in his attempts to return, relying on “relationships he would have established with influential personalities», reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.

This situation aroused criticism among public opinion, particularly when he participated in activities of a national nature which he seemed to want to exploit to regain his place on the political scene.
