The operation took place in the Beauport sector.
Around 11:15 p.m., a man found himself on a small island, near the Montmorency River pedestrian bridge, at the intersection of Raymond and Lloyd Welch boulevard. The victim’s friends notified the firefighters.
«Several teams from the fire service, including three nautical teams, carried out a major victim search operation,” reports the spokesperson for the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ).
The victim was finally located on a small islet in the forest, east of the Montmorency River. Contact was made at 11:51 p.m.
The man was evacuated with a Fortuna type boat, then an ATV. The presence of 25 firefighters was necessary for the rescue.
The rapid rise in the water level of the Montmorency River could be to blame, specifies the SPCIQ, which calls for caution.
During periods of heavy rain and melting snow, all pedestrians, ATVs and snowmobilers should not approach watercourses. It is best to stay on the trails if travel is necessary.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was encountered by paramedics after his rescue but was conscious and had no apparent injuries.
