The end-of-year holidays may have passed, but the snow doesn't intend to stop there. With winter in full swing, around twenty departments have been placed on yellow alert.
Météo France announced snowfall of a few centimeters in Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine while a more abundant layer was expected on the heights of the Vosges from 800 m altitude. In the Massif Central and the Alps, snow falls from 1200 m, but temperatures will drop tonight and flakes are expected around 400 m.
Snowfall, but especially ice
These temperature drops are pushing Météo France to put 45 departments on yellow alert, particularly in the northern half of the country. This concerns: Aisne, Ardennes, Aube, Calvados, Côte-d'Or, Doubs, Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Jura, Manche, Haute-Marne , Marne, Mayenne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Nièvre, Nord, Oise, Orne, Pas-de-Calais, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Sarthe, Paris, Seine-Maritime, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Somme , Vosges, Yonne, Territoire de Belfort, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d'Oise, Ain, Côtes d'Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Loiret, Lozère and Haute-Savoie.
It's not so much the snow that worries meteorologists, but the risk of icy conditions caused by low temperatures. “With temperatures close to zero overnight from Thursday to Friday in the east of France, there is a risk of icy conditions”explains Guillaume Séchet, meteorologist and founder of the Météo-Villes site to Actu.fr.
It is recommended to be extra careful on the roads in the event of snowfall or temperatures below 3 degrees, which favors the appearance of patches of ice. Pay attention to yourself so as not to start 2025 on the wrong foot!
