A new year means good resolutions, and sometimes, a shake-up of habits. The Île-de- region and Parisians will experience several changes from Wednesday January 1, 2025 in their travel. Single price in transport, increase in the Navigo pass, (theoretical) ban on Crit'Air 3 cars in Greater Paris… We take stock of what will change.

Harmonized and simplified transport prices

This is the good news for this 2025 school year: no more innumerable and incomprehensible different prices applied in the region on the metro, bus, RER, Transilien and tram networks. 3 million users will emerge winners of this new measure, primarily those who make long journeys with many connections, praises Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM). From noon this Wednesday, alone two unique prices will apply.

  • The metro-train-RER ticket at 2,50 eurosvalid on all lines of the rail network (excluding Orlyval) as well as lines T11, T12 and T13.
  • The bus-tram ticket at 2 eurosvalid on all tram lines, buses (excluding Orlybus and Roissybus), coaches, Noctilien, long-distance buses, and on-demand transport. The T11, T12 and T13 tram lines will eventually be aligned with this 2 euro pricing.

Pour get to airportsa single ticket will be put in place: the Paris Region <> Airports ticket. Sold 13 eurosit will be valid regardless of the starting point and the network used: metro, train, RER, Orlyval, etc.

The Liberté + pass generalized to the entire region

Occasional travelers will also be able to smile from Wednesday. The Navigo service Freedom +which was until now only active in Paris itself, will be valid throughout the region.

Its price will be equivalent to that of the notebook, i.e. 20% off per trip. The metro/train/RER ticket will cost 1.99 euros and that for buses and trams will cost 1.60 euros. The Liberté + pass will offer connections between the rail and surface networks, specifies IDFM. Trips made during the month will be charged the following month post-payment.

The Navigo pass increases

After the good news, it's time for the bad news. For the second year in a row, the Navigo pass will increase, going from 88,88 euros per month instead of 86.40 euros this year, an increase of 2.8%. In 2024, the price had already increased by 2.30 euros.

The Imagine R card used by schools and students will also increase and will move to 384,30 euros per year, compared to 374.40 euros currently.

Crit'Air 3 vehicles prohibited, with flexibility

Behind the wheel, the year 2024 has already seen its share of changes. Implementation of the ZTL in Paris, passage of the ring road at 50 km/h, pedestrianization of the Iéna bridge…

A new measure will be added on January 1: labeled vehicles Crit’Air 3, i.e. diesel cars over 14 years old and petrol cars over 19 years old, will be prohibited in the Low emission zone (ZFE) of Greater Paris, delimited by the A86 motorway. The measure, which must apply Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., aims to improve air quality. If this ban concerns 480,000 vehicles, all categories combined, relaxations have already been announced.

The year 2025 will be “a year of education”, indicated the president of the Greater Paris Metropolis (MGP), Patrick Ollier, in December 2024. “During the entire year 2025, we will emit butterflies who will explain things. Mayors will receive tens of thousands. It is up to their municipal police to slip them under the windshield wipers of the cars concerned so that people understand that they will have to make efforts and that, in a year, they will no longer be able to enter or drive in the MGP with their Crit. 'Air 3,' he explained.

Exemptions will be applied to professionals. Finally, individuals owning a Crit'Air 3 vehicle will be able to request a “ZFE pass” which will allow them to drive without the risk of being fined 24 days a year.
