Thursday January 2, 2025 marks the start of a new year but also the arrival of an expected snowy episode in the north-east of France. This cold snap is forecast to extend to the northern half of the country the next day. Information confirmed by Météo France which has placed around fifteen departments on yellow alert for snow and ice.

“During the morning, in an increasingly cold atmosphere, snow begins to replace the rain on the heights of Champagne-Ardenne in Lorraine. A layer of a few centimeters forms on the heights of Champagne-Ardenne in Lorraine around 300/400 m and later in the evening in Burgundy Franche-Comté. »indicated Météo France.
The snow will be more abundant on the Vosges relief, with heights of 7 to 15 cm around 800/1000 m altitude and more than 20 to 30 cm on the ridges. In the north of the Massif Central and the Alps, it snows first above 1200 to 1500 m then increasingly lower the next night up to 400/600 m.
Widespread snow forecast for Friday
Attentionsnow could become widespread in the northern half on Friday. In anticipation, Météo France has already placed several dozen departments on snow-ice yellow vigilance: territories stretching from Normandy to the Jura, including the north and the Paris region.
