The Chicoutimi Saguenéens won a second victory in a row yesterday afternoon at the Georges-Vézina center.
The team won 6-3 against the Victoriaville Tigres in a Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) match played in front of 4,109 spectators.
The day before, upon returning from the holiday break, Yanick Jean’s squad had beaten the Sherbrooke Phoenix in overtime.
Following these two victories this weekend, the Sags find themselves in second place in the Eastern Conference thanks to a harvest of 46 points. The Chicoutimiens have only suffered six losses in regulation time in 33 games this season.
Facing the Tigres, the Saguenéens quickly took the lead in the first period and widened their lead until the end of the second, without reply. The visitors then managed to score three goals, but the Chicoutimi team put an end to the momentum with an empty-net goal.
Center Félix Gagnon, native of Saguenay, stood out for the Saguenéens by collecting two goals and an assist, while winger Olivier Houde scored two goals for the Tigres.
The Sags will meet the Tigres in Victoriaville for an afternoon match on New Year’s Eve.
