In order to have a festive but peaceful New Year in Strasbourg, the Bas-Rhin prefecture has announced that it will renew the entire security system from last year. On the menu: bans on firecrackers and alcohol, as well as a curfew for minors under 16 years old.
For his first New Year in Strasbourg, Jacques Witkowski has not decided to change things. Scrupulously following the adage “ you don't change a winning team », the new prefect of Bas-Rhin renews identically the security system put in place by his predecessor Josiane Chevalier in recent years.
A little anecdote, however, this year: while the prefecture had issued a first prefectural decree on November 28 regarding the ban on firecrackers, it had to modify it a few days later, and therefore make a new one. The reason? In its first version, it mentioned a ban lasting until January 3… 2024. A small ball rectified six days later, on December 4. All's well that ends well.
For the Strasbourg New Year, no firecrackers and no alcohol either
The symphony of firecrackers has been ringing in the ears of Strasbourg residents for several weeks now, although those in category F2 and F3 have been banned since December 1st. According to the prefectural decree, all of Strasbourg will be prohibited from buying, selling, transferring, using, carrying and transporting all fireworks and pyrotechnic articles from January 1 at 12 a.m. until January 3 at 8 a.m..
At the same time, there will be no sale or consumption of alcohol on public roads, from December 31 at 12 p.m. until January 1 at 12 p.m.. Finally, Strasbourg residents will be prohibited from distributing, buying or selling takeaway fuel in any transportable container from midnight on December 29 to 6 a.m. on January 3.
A 4th consecutive curfew imposed on those under 16
After “ you don't change a winning team ”, place for a new prefectural maxim: “ never three without four »: for the 4th consecutive year and after the experiments under Covid, the Bas-Rhin prefecture once again establishes a curfew for minors under 16 years of age unaccompanied by a parent or a representative of parental authority.
As in previous years, the curfew will extend from December 31 at 10 p.m. until January 1 at 6 a.m.. And this, in eight municipalities: Bischheim, Hoenheim, Illkirch-Graffenstaden, Lingolsheim, Ostwald, Schiltigheim and of course Strasbourg
