The game is (well and truly) restarted! After recording colossal success for its first season (the most watched program in Netflix history) in 2021, the continuation of the “Squid Game” series was more than awaited by subscribers of the streaming platform. The latter have indeed flocked en masse to the seven episodes which make up the second season of the South Korean soap opera, put online on Thursday December 26, 2024. In just 24 hours, the fiction featuring player 456 in a series of deadly trials stunned the competition, taking first place in the ranking of the most viewed series of the moment in France (and second in the world).
The sequel available before the end of 2025
But the creator of “Squid Game” Hwang Dong-hyuk did not wait for the positive repercussions of this second burst of episodes to give news of the season which will conclude his work. Aficionados will not have to wait as long as between the first two seasons to find out the fate of Seong Gi-hun since their curiosity will be satisfied in less than a year. “At this point, what I can say is that after Season 2 launches, I believe we will announce the date for Season 3 soon. I imagine it will probably come out around summer or autumn of next year“, confided the screenwriter in an interview with “Variety”. And if he is careful to keep the mystery as to the extension of the plot to avoid any spoilers, Hwang Dong-hyuk nevertheless slipped in a major clue: that of watching the last episode carefully to understand “the direction this next season could take”.

A third season in post-production
In any case, this one has already been filmed, and with a more than substantial budget (100 million euros compared to 20 for the first). Its main hero, Lee Jung-Jae, revealed in “Premiere” that he couldn't wait to see the final result of the adventures that revealed him to the general public. “We finished filming season 3 but it is still in post-production. I still haven't seen the final cut of the last few episodes. I'm very curious to see what this will do.”, he indicated before leaving the arena for good.
