Ziguinchor, Dec 29 (APS) – The central police station of Ziguinchor (south) declares having carried out 312 large-scale security operations during the year 2024.
“We had to carry out 312 large-scale security operations over the whole of 2024,” central commissioner Malick Dieng declared on Saturday.
Mr. Dieng made the revelation during a press briefing intended to reassure the populations of Ziguinchor about the measures taken by the police to put an end to the attacks noted recently in the city.
”Our system takes into account the entire city of Ziguinchor. Every day, we carry out road security operations and judicial police operations,” he said.
He reports that ”night patrols are organized every day”. According to him, these patrols “brought” “convincing results” to his police station.
For some time, he declares, ”cases of aggression have been noted here and there, in the city of Ziguinchor.
”These cases of aggression ended up, despite the colossal work carried out by the police, by creating a certain psychosis, due to poor communication,” he lamented.
”It’s true that there are some. We must not deny them. But these cases of aggression should not cause psychosis among the population,” he insisted.
He acknowledged that ”a few cases of aggression” were recorded ”during the last three months, mainly in November and December”.
The latest case of assault occurred at the end of a concert organized last Saturday. ”At the end of this concert, groups of young people began to attack the artist’s supporters on the way back,” he explained.
He indicated that the police intervened after being informed of these actions.
He reports that an investigation has been opened into cases of snatching and cell phone theft.
He informs that six individuals were arrested and presented to the prosecution last Friday.
According to him, ”the Ziguinchor police are resolutely committed to protecting the population and their property”.
”We are at the end of the year. And whoever says end of year knows that in Ziguinchor it is a very festive period, where we note a significant influx of people who come to us from the sub-region and other regions of the country,” noted the commissioner Dieng.
He ensures that all arrangements are made to ensure the smooth running of the festivities in the regional capital.
He also returned during this press briefing to the trafficking affair d’ecstasy which recently fueled debates in Ziguinchor.
”It’s a phenomenon that is present in Ziguinchor. And we call on the commitment of everyone, mainly parents, so that we can communicate with our children and see the ways and means to overcome this phenomenon,” he said.
He also assured that his agents will face the phenomenon of prostitution which is rampant in Ziguinchor.
”There have been series of arrests for illegal stay, non-registration in the health file, among others. Work will continue to clean up the city of Ziguinchor,” he insisted.
