2024 in the rearview mirror of “VU”. Six hours of extracts, shocking images and punchlines, interspersed in a biting and impertinent montage, to put the ups and downs of the past year into perspective. Thursday January 2 from 11:25 p.m. on France 2.
New year obliges, while waiting for the time of resolutions, here comes the time of retrospectives. Faithful to the mission that telephage Patrick Menais has set for himself for thirty-five years now by launching Zapping on Canal+, the show VUbroadcast since 2017 on France Télévisions, takes stock of the past year. Because VU sees everything, really everything: from the sporting summits of the Olympics to the depths of trash TV, including teleshopping or dance shows, without forgetting the highlights of the news – and God knows that, of extension of the Israel-Hamas war in Lebanon to the re-election of Donald Trump in the United States, including the surprise dissolution of the National Assembly or the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, the year was full of twists and turns …
On a daily basis, the showsums up a day of television in six minutes. Each episode is like a small time capsule intended for an external intelligence which would wonder what the life of human beings can be like – how they take care or not of themselves, of each other, of their planet … It is, each time, terrible and wonderful: through the images on the small screen, all channels combined, VU holds out to us a barely distorting mirror as if to better reveal ourselves to ourselves.
For this special issue, VU looks in his panopticon rearview mirror and travels through the year 2024 in six hours flat. A veritable marathon of extracts, shocking images and punchlines that a biting editing, with salutary irony, collides, interweaves, brings into resonance, to put into perspective the procrastination but also the beauty of our time.
And you, what will you remember from 2024?
SEEN of the year
