The Prime Minister brought together Manuel Valls, Éric Lombard and Valérie Létard, to discuss the question of the reconstruction of Mayotte after the passage of the cyclone.
François Bayrou held on Wednesday, by videoconference from Pau, a meeting devoted to Mayotte, and in particular to the question of housing and reconstruction, with several ministers including the new holder of the Overseas portfolio Manuel Valls, indicated Matignon.
The Minister of the Economy Éric Lombard and the Minister of Housing Valérie Létard also participated in this meeting. The Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau was represented by the prefect of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
Also participating in this meeting were contractors specializing in the issue of roofing and having branches in Mayotte, according to the same source. “We cannot wait, these issues must move forward. That’s why we organized a meeting on Christmas Day.”declared François Bayrou to AFP. “Our concern, and which is imperative, is to present concrete solutions as quickly as possible. The human toll from Cyclone Chido now stands at 39 dead and more than 4,000 injured, according to a new count published Tuesday by the prefect of Mayotte.
The most devastating cyclone that Mayotte has experienced in 90 years caused colossal damage on December 14 in the poorest department in France, where emergency services have since been hard at work restoring essential services such as water, electricity and communications networks.

François Bayrou recently indicated that he intended to go to Mayotte quickly after the formation of his government, the composition of which was announced Monday evening. Manuel Valls confirmed on Wednesday that he would visit the island “with the Prime Minister as quickly as possible”.
