Some adaptations in a new club are more difficult than others, and integrating into a squad which has notably experienced relegation or which is under construction is not always easy for a new player, even one referenced in a championship given. This is particularly the case of Mons Bassouamina who, after two generally successful years at Pau in Ligue 2took up the challenge of Clermont Foot 63 by leaving his previous team at the end of his contract.

A player far from his standards

But we cannot say that this change of club is for the moment a success for the eccentric attacker: one of the few attackers who centers the most towards the penalty area this season in the division is in clear lack of success at both in creation and in finishing, with only two small assists to his credit and above all no goal scored at club since 05/10/2024. Date at which he was still in Pau. A contrast which contrasts sharply with his 2023-2024 season (14 involvements in goals for his club in all competitions) but also with his very first season in Ligue 2, during the previous year (11 involvements, including 9 in the league) .

His lack of efficiency at Clermont Foot 63 is disturbing…

Our colleagues from La Montagne, who rate the starting players after each Clermontois match, establish a fairly damning assessment of the first six months of the Congolese international in Auvergne, who is not yet decisive enough or even good enough in the game by compared to what was expected of him when he was recruited. To the point of only starting eight times this season in Ligue 2, including only 2 between October and the end of the year, for an average rating of 3.63/10 which is the worst on his team while we are almost halfway through. On four occasions during these 8 tenures, the journalists from the La Montagne editorial team gave him the worst rating of the entire team…
