Sunday evening December 22, 2024, farmers put on a show, from Saint-Père-Marc-en-Poulet to La Ville-ès-Nonais via Châteauneuf, Miniac-Morvan and Pleudihen-sur-Rance, with around twenty tractors illuminated. A real success, which brought light to the eyes of young and old alike who came in large numbers to the side of the roads.
And yet, this unique Christmas parade near Saint-Malo was organized in record time, and not without a little stress, as Florence Contin, from La Ville-ès-Nonais, tells us.
“Last year, my son Léo brought Santa Claus in a decorated tractor for the school party. This year, with a friend, Marc, they had the idea of organizing a parade as is done elsewhere. » That was Sunday, December 15…
The event authorized in a few days
Franck, Léo's father, agrees to take the organization under his responsibility, and to do this according to the rules, contacts the mayor of La Ville-ès-Nonais, Jean-Malo Cornée. With its help, the sub-prefecture is informed, as are the other town halls concerned. Franck Contin is summoned by the gendarmes to validate the route and times with them.
Once the event is authorized, word of mouth between young future farmers, who know each other through their studies, does the rest. And they spared no effort in view of the fabulous decorations which illuminated the tractors and trailers.
“Make people happy”
If Florence and Franck Contin supported these young people “between 16 and 20 years old” in their idea, it is to show that there are “motivated farmers ready to take time to please people”.
On the said day, the parade “almost got canceled” because of the storm, but fortunately the winds had calmed down, as expected, by the end of the day.
When the parade arrived, in La Ville-ès-Nonais, it was volunteers from the Châteauneuf agricultural show who manned the refreshment bar, and a food truck had been planned.
A parade for Christmas 2025?
The public was there and “there were interesting exchanges between young people and people who are not from the agricultural sector”. “We are super proud of them, especially since they were extremely respectful and attentive to safety issues. »
Given the enthusiasm, there should be another parade for Christmas 2025, “but we won't do it in 8 days! », concludes Florence Contin.
