Why redo the track?
The LPA Plérin (Penthièvre athletics) has been asking for the repair of the municipal athletics track for a long time. A track used by athletes, but also students from Lequier college. There are places where there is no more synthetic at all
notes Pierrick Jégu, co-president of the club.
At the beginning of 2024, a consultation was launched with the users of the stadium (LPA Plérin and PE teachers from Lequier college) and a design office specializing in sports facilities was mandated, to draw up a diagnosis and develop a preliminary project. You have to break and redo,”
summarized Pierrick Jégu, on the sidelines of the general assembly of the WHO (municipal sports office), on December 13, 2024.
What types of work?
The project involves several operations: removal, before repair, of the synthetic layer, foundations and bitumen inside the ring (with reconfiguration of the handball and volleyball courts on the new bitumen); repositioning (to be installed parallel to the finish line), of the tray used for the long jump which will provide a longer run-up,”
justifies the co-president; moving the pole vault jumper, deemed too close to the track and finally, repair of all the lighting which will allow us to organize night competitions
adds Pierrick Jégu.

Why is the project on hold?
The renovation project is estimated at €560,000 excluding taxes, or €678,000 including tax. Faced with a tense financial context, the municipality insists that it has not yet made any decision. She has already launched a search for grants. We are awaiting the response from the Departmental Council
announced on December 13, Maël Henry, deputy for community life, sports and local initiatives. During next year, a grant application file will also be sent to the National Sports Agency. It is only based on the responses and after developing the financing plan that the municipality will decide whether or not to carry out this project.
