Around ten firefighters intervened and medical resources were deployed, as well as a pumper, a ladder truck, an officer vehicle, etc. The Smur also came to the scene as well as the railway police, the SPC.
On site, the observation is clear: “The car is completely destroyed. The train stopped its journey a little further from the scene of the collision. The same goes for the car, which ended up about a hundred meters from the point of impact.” There was a baby car seat in the vehicle. The rescuers therefore searched for a baby in the surrounding chaos, but it ultimately turned out that no baby was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Moreover, the motorist's two children are well and safe.
Train passengers supported by SNCB
“No one was present during the accident. One level crossing barrier was raised, the other lowered. Was there a problem with the signaling? Nothing is less certain”asks the mayor of Berloz, Alain Happaerts, who informs that an electric cable which powers the barriers was also cut and found itself across the railway lines. Concerning the train passengers, they are well and have been taken care of by SNCB. “A bus came to pick them up around 1:30 a.m.adds the mayor. The SNCB distributed them bottles of water and waffles. A PlanU unit has been set up.”
The spokesperson for Infrabel, Frédéric Sacré, also informs that “the train was able to be evacuated and traffic restored around 4 a.m.”. It was Munsters breakdown assistance, from Remicourt, who came to remove the car.
