There are cities where the population is decreasing, others where it remains stable… Then there are those which are experiencing undeniable growth.
According to the latest figures from theINSEEthe demographics of a small town in the hinterland have exploded in recent times. It is about Rimplasnorth of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Despite few inhabitants…
Located a little less than 70 kilometers from Nice and nestled at around 1,000 meters above sea level, Rimplas is after all a small town. It is even a village, since it is far from housing 2,000 inhabitants.
According to INSEE, Rimplas counted 154 inhabitants in 2022. Faced with Nice and its more than 300,000 inhabitants, this seems very little. And yet. According to INSEE, Rimplas is the commune in the Alpes-Maritimes which has experienced the strongest growth.
In proportion to its number of inhabitants, one could even say that it has exploded. While some cities may have lost up to 6% of their population since 2016, the number of residents in Rimplas a crude of 9.7 %.
…An unrivaled demographic boom
The town had, however, lost a certain number of souls between 2011 (136) and 2016 (90). Three other municipalities appearing in the top 5 municipalities having experienced the greatest growth followed the same dynamic.
Only the third, Saint-Blaise, is an exception.
- Rimplas : + 9,7 %.
- Auvare: + 7.72% – 46 inhabitants in 2011, 32 in 2016
- Saint-Blaise: + 5.43% – 977 inhabitants in 2011, 1013 in 2016
- Péone: + 5.16% – 961 inhabitants in 2011, 798 in 2016
- Bairols: + 4.18 – 109 inhabitants in 2011, 104 in 2016
An aging population
Still according to INSEE, those aged 60 – 74, who only accounted for 21.1% of inhabitants in 2015, accounted for 26.6% in 2021. The data is relatively stable for those aged 75 or over (from 14.4% to 14.3%) and for those aged 45 – 59 (26.7% – 28.6%).
It is especially the “intermediate” brackets that are decreasing. The proportion of 15 – 29 year olds went from 11.1% to 7.8%, that of 30 – 44 year olds went from 15.6% to 9.1%.
The share of children between 0 and 14 years old is increasing (from 11.1% to 13.6%).
