The town hall of Saint-Genis-Laval authorized Santa Claus to fly over its airspace in an extraordinary municipal decree effective only for the night of December 24 to 25.
Located to the south of the metropolis of Lyon, the commune of Saint-Genis-Laval issued a somewhat unusual decree on December 20. Marylène Millet, the mayor, authorized “Santa Claus to fly freely over the airspace” of the city during the night of December 24 to 25 “in order to proceed with the distribution of gifts”. “Santa Claus is also allowed to do loops and use city charging stations to power his sleigh”indicates the municipality which therefore tells us that Santa Claus has gone electric, probably to comply with the ban on Crit'Air 3 in the Lyon ZFE from January 2023.

A snack for Santa
The only condition for receiving gifts is “the children will have to bring a snack, a few biscuits and a glass of milk for the elves and carrots for the reindeer, or failing that, a drawing for Santa Claus”specifies the administrative document. The decree also provides that to be authorized in Saint-Genis-Laval, “the reindeer must be microchipped and vaccinated”.
No risk of this administrative decision being challenged in court, the decree provides in its article “that no appeal can be filed before the administrative court or any other magical jurisdiction”. Christmas will therefore indeed take place in Saint-Genis-Laval.
