The metropolis of Lyon is currently experiencing an episode of pollution. The Rhône prefecture announces that the information-recommendation level is activated.
An episode of pollution has been underway in the Lyon metropolis since Thursday, December 26. The prefect of Rhône, Fabienne Buccio, activated the information-recommendation level for the Rhône department.
No restrictive measures
Pollution is particularly concentrated in the Lyon basin. The level of concentration of fine particles is considered poor by Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the observatory responsible for monitoring air quality.
This Friday, December 27, “thermal inversions could be more marked with low clouds in the Lyon metropolitan area. These very unfavorable conditions for air quality in a context of increased heating should accentuate the increase in particle concentrations”, explains the observatory, which predicts little development for the next day.
“Air quality would remain degraded to poor in urban areas and valleys,” indicates Atmo Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
If “no measure is binding at this stage”, the prefecture has listed a series of health recommendations. Travel on major roads is therefore not recommended for the most vulnerable populations, as are intense activities, whether outdoors or indoors.
