Strong winds: up to 140 km/h in Castellón, material damage throughout the region

The north of the province of Castellón was particularly hit, with gusts reaching nearly 140 km/h in Fredes, according to Aemet. In Vilafranca del Cid, the wind blew up to 118 km/h, while Morella recorded peaks of 99 km/h. But the effects of bad weather were not limited to Castellón. The northern part of the province of Valencia also suffered significant gusts, with speeds reaching 82 km/h in Valencia, 79 km/h in Finestrat and 78 km/h in Xàbia. Faced with these extreme conditions, Aemet extended a yellow alert to the coast of the province of Alicante from 9:44 a.m.

The strong gusts of wind caused material damage, uprooting trees, antennas and panels. Firefighters intervened on several occasions, notably in Rocafort, Quart de Poblet, Paiporta, Manises and Eliana. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The Valencian Community on alert

Since this morning, an orange alert has been in effect throughout the province of Castellón, while a yellow alert covers the north of Valencia and, more recently, the coast of Alicante. The authorities recommend that residents limit their movements and secure objects that could be blown away by the wind.
