The 5% increase in the guaranteed minimum wage is part of the Moroccan government’s commitment to improving living conditions through structured social policies.

The Moroccan government has officially approved a 5% increase in the guaranteed minimum wage for non-agricultural (SMIG) and agricultural (SMAG) workers, which will come into force on January 1, 2025.

Government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas took note of this decision during a press conference following the weekly government council chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

«From next January, the minimum wage will increase to 17.10 DH per hour, or a net monthly salary of 3,045 DH. For agricultural employees, the SMAG will increase to 93 DH per day, or a net monthly salary of 2,255 DH», specified Mr. Baitas.

This measure is part of the government’s commitment to improving living conditions through structured social policies, he explained, emphasizing: “ When this government makes a promise, it keeps it. It’s not about slogans, it’s about making real change. »

Wage reforms are a signal of social orientation

Baitas further announced that the state has budgeted 45 billion dirhams to improve public sector salaries by 2026, highlighting the scale of the initiative.

« In 2025 alone, 20 billion dirhams have been allocated to human resources as part of social dialogue commitments, while public sector salaries are expected to cost the State 26 billion dirhams. “, he clarified.

Baitas also discussed the growth in overall salary expenditure, emphasizing that public sector salaries will increase from 140 billion dirhams in 2021 to 192.8 billion dirhams in 2026, an increase of 37.3%. “ This annual increase represents 6% of the total state budget”he explained.

The minimum net monthly salary in the public sector reached 4,500 dirhams, an improvement of 50% compared to previous levels. “ We have made it clear that social policies are at the heart of our priorities. These are not just promises, but measurable results that directly benefit citizens “, affirmed Mr. Baitas.

As Morocco progresses in its salary adjustments, the government is committed to promoting a “ Social state ”, working to reduce income disparities and strengthen support for workers in various sectors.
