The Compagnie nationale du Rhône, as a concessionaire of the river, is responsible for its operation and development within the framework of three missions entrusted by the State: the production of electricity, the development of river navigation and the development of the 'irrigation.

It is within this framework that it designates the sub-concessionaires responsible for the management of river ports. Friday November 20 she awarded the sub-concession for the port of (Bouches-du-Rhône) to a group composed of the CCI du Pays d'Arles (35%, agent, which will ensure port operation), NGE Concessions (35%), the Banque des Territoires (Caisse des Dépôts Group, 14.99%), the Caisse d’Epargne CEPAC (10.01%) and the Compagnie River Transport (Sogestran Group, 5%).

100% NGE works

From a duration of 25 years, the subconcession includes the development, operation, maintenance and major upkeep of the port public of Arles in particular to support the growth of mass flows from the port, accessible to ships of 3000 t, and which has processed more than 500,000 tonnes of goods in 2023. For this, it will be fully modernized during the first two years of the project. The sub-concessionaire group plans toinvest a total of €7 million to do this. The works under Egis project management, will be carried out by a 100% NGE construction group (Guintoli agent, EHTP pipelines, Agilis concrete roads, NGE Routes and NGE GC civil engineering). They will consist in particular of:

– the construction of structures for the recovery, storage and treatment of rainwater before their release into the natural environment;
– the construction of a 200 m² concrete washing area equipped with a decanter/sludge trap system for the treatment of ship wash water before their evacuation;
– the construction of a hydraulic network, storage platforms, relamping of the entire lighting network ;
– l’installation of power terminals connected to the edge of the quay in order to to enable the supply of water and electricity to ships in port;
– l’installation of a video surveillance system on existing lighting masts to ensure complete remote monitoring of the site.

Massive transport

For NGE, born in Arles and whose head office is just a stone's throw away, it is obviously “a source of great pride”commented Jean Bernadet, its President. “Participating in the financing of such infrastructure from a perspective of ecological sobriety and territorial development responds to our desire to promote projects in favor of ecological transition and economic dynamics. Our teams will be present over the long term for 25 years, to transform the port of Arles and strengthen it in its role as the economic heart of the territory,” he added.

This market is fully in line with the strategic roadmap of the members of the group in favor of the ecological transition and in which carbon-free mobility and the water cycle have a preponderant place. Thus, thehe CCI du Pays d'Arles will rely in particular on the circular economy sectors (scrap metal, biomass), wood (crushing and lumber) and maritime containers to develop mass transport.
