Court: “People keep stealing the bikes I steal”

Perpignan Court: “People keep stealing the bikes I steal”

At almost 60 years old, Franck does not have the profile of the people generally presented in court. However, he could appear in the record books with his record which totals no less than 42 mentions!

He is being prosecuted for stealing two bicycles in , two days apart. Spotted by the city's surveillance cameras, he was arrested on the one he had stolen from the CCAS. He had with him the pliers that he used to cut the lock. During his hearing, he candidly declared: “I had to get another one because the ones I steal are stolen from me, because I don’t have a padlock.” He ends up confessing to being the author of another theft committed the day before. “Small” offenses, but which add to the endless list of his previous misdeeds. Since 1987, his criminal record has been inked 42 times.

Released from prison on parole in September, he had not responded to the first summons from his probation officer, enough to be sent back to court for immediate appearance procedure.
“My bag with all the documents was stolen, I can no longer even receive the RSA, to complete all the procedures, I could not be on foot.”

An argument which does not please the public prosecutor. If the prosecutor admits that we are far from the heist of the century, it nevertheless appears that the victims found themselves in embarrassment. “But the difficulty arises mainly from this extravagant criminal record, sighs the prosecutor. The probationary suspension was tried, but did not work”.
Consequently, it requires 8 months firm.

The court does not aim to burden this elderly, homeless and destitute defendant more than necessary. He is agreeing to a 4-month sentence.
